NMAAHC Receives AIA’s 2019 Institute Honor Award for Architecture

One of the newest additions to the National Mall in Washington, DC, is the much-celebrated Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. The NMAAHC’s architect, David Adjaye, recently debuted his “Making Memory” exhibition at London’s Design Museum, where he showcases an intricate model of the museum alongside prototype facade panels that depict the intricate details of the structure’s corona panels. Continuing the projects critical acclaim, the American Institute of Architects named the NMAAHC the recipient for AIA’s 2019 Institute Honor Awards for Architecture.

The Spheres Recipient of Interiors Awards 2019 – Large Office

Contract magazine has announced its 40th Annual Interiors Awards winners, including the Amazon Spheres by NBBJ in the large office category. Enclos provided design-assist and construction services for the facade, culminating in the installation of 2,643 glass units on the 105 large pentagonal hexecontahedron-shaped mega-frames.

Moscone Center Expansion to Attract Big Tech Conferences

After four years of construction and $551 million of extensive renovations, Moscone Center has been completed. The convention center originally opened its doors in 1981 and now features a 21% increase in space totaling 504,915 SF of connected exhibit grounds, making it the 15th largest convention center in the country.

Peak Performance at 53W53

In mid-December, the highest piece of the enclosure capped Jean Nouvel’s 53W53 skyscraper over Midtown. Enclos crews worked to safely fly the 42,000 lbs wedge-shaped mega-unit that forms Apex 1 to a height of 1,100´ before lowering it to its final position at 1,050´. 10 Hudson Yards Wins 2019 Award of Excellence for Facade Engineering

10 Hudson Yards is announced as CTBUH’s Facade Engineering Award recipient. The tower was the first of six structures to be completed on the Hudson Yards development and opened in May of 2016. The structure is 52-stories and stands at an impressive 878´ and has earned LEED Gold Certification. The unitized curtainwall system includes multiple wall types by Enclos – including glazed shingled surfaces.
