Flat wall cable net design stepped forward with the landmark Time-Warner Corporate Headquarters at Columbus Circle. Two 55-story towers are intersected by a multi-story atrium provided by Enclos. The atrium’s cable net structure was the largest in North America at the time of its completion, and acts as the entranceway to numerous upscale retail shops and 1,200 seat theater.
Building Maximum Transparency
The atrium’s exterior facade spans 100´ across and 165´ vertically. A stainless steel entry portal and canopy is integrated into the structure design at the base, and acts as a primary entrance into the complex.

Behind the exterior cable-net wall, an ancillary interior glass partition known as the “jazz wall” drops from the same overhead truss as the exterior facade and follows a sloping catenary curve to enclose a mezzanine level concert hall.

Enclos developed special hydraulic jacking technology to achieve the required pretension loading of the stainless steel cables. Like a tennis racquet, pretensioning the cables provides stability for the cable-net.

Custom-engineered stainless steel fittings connect the stainless steel cables at each intersecting node, providing means for the cable-net to function as a whole, and points of retainage for the glass lites.

Enclos provided design/build services and acted as the engineer of record for this cable net system, including the 100´ top truss and integral stainless steel portal.
