University of California Merced: Classroom and Office Building 1

The LEED Gold certified Classroom and Office Building 1 is the best energy performer on the UC Merced campus, saving nearly 50% percent less in energy costs over comparable facilities that meet only California building code requirements. The 100,000 square foot, three-story facility includes sunshades along the exterior walls to provide significant protection to the windows against solar infiltration during hot seasons while admitting filtered daylight to reduce the electrical demand for interior lighting.
