Moscone Center Expansion to Attract Big Tech Conferences

Thursday, January 3, 2019

After four years of construction and $551 million of extensive renovations, Moscone Center has been completed. The convention center originally opened its doors in 1981 and now features a 21% increase in space totaling 504,915 square feet of connected exhibit grounds. It is now the 15th largest convention center in the country with the capacity to accommodate approximately 100,000 people. The expansion was necessary to cater to new and larger tech companies in the bay area.

Enclos revisited Moscone Center and worked alongside architecture firm Skidmore Owings & Merrill and Webcor Builders to provide design-assist services for the storefront and curtainwall system. A new lobby, bridge, skyline, and parapet were also in Enclos’ scope of work.

The newly expanded convention center will seek LEED Platinum certification and will introduce green features like water recycling and energy-efficient lights. For additional details on Enclos’ involvement on the Moscone Center Expansion, click here.
